BACKGROUND
There are multiple causes of infertility. The three biggest individual causes are: 1) abnormalities of egg production, 2) abnormalities of egg or sperm transport, and 3) male factors. These 3 factors account for 80% of all cases of infertility. The male alone is the cause of up to 40% of cases of infertility.
When an infertile couple visits a fertility specialist, a semen analysis is one of the first things evaluated. The specialist looks to see if the sperm is concentrated enough (20 million sperm cells per milliliter or more) or if there is enough volume of sperm (less than 2.0 milliliters or more). The lab will also determine if the sperm appear to be normal in physical characteristics(morphology), as well as how well they swim (motility). These two parameters are not tested with this kit.
With BabyStart, the semen sample is given in the privacy of your own home. This tests if the sperm is concentrated enough (20 million sperm cells per milliliter or more) or if there is enough volume of sperm (less than 2 milliliters or more). By knowing if the sperm is concentrated enough or if there is enough volume of sperm, one can denote imply if the infertility could be due to low sperm count.

Negative Test:A blue color lighter than the reference color is negative (sperm concentration is less than 20 million/mL).
Note: If performing the second test, you will be comparing the blue color in Test Well D to the blue color in Reference Well C.
Note: If no color appears, you may have mad an error in adding the Sample of Solutions. Use the seceond Test Well (D), or obtain another kit if both test wells on the cassette have been used and repeat the test.
